FULL STORY BEHIND COVER ART
Pasted from Shining and Indie's recent press letter:

Shining release the new album "One One One" June 4th in Europe (excluding Norway) and June 7th in Germany and Austria. Shinings’s new blackjazz masterpiece can now be pre-ordered here:

“One One One” will be available as a digipack containing a 20 page booklet filled with lyrics and artwork designed by famous designer duo Trine+Kim (Enslaved, Solefald, Mayhem, Darkthrone).

Shining front man and saxophone superman, Jørgen Munkeby, comments on the process and thoughts behind the cover art:

"We wanted to continue the visual aesthetics we developed with Blackjazz and Live Blackjazz, but at the same time give it a fresh twist. It felt natural to continue our collaboration with Trine + Kim Design Studio, who helped develop the visual aesthetics for Blackjazz back in 2009.

I've also been a long time fan of brave and uncompromising choices, both in music and in design, and felt that this time we would like to make a stripped down artwork that would also stand out from the rest. Blackjazz was black, Live Blackjazz was white, and we wanted to find another strong color to embody this new album. Seeing how the color red looked great screen, but didn't have the same punch and glow when printed on paper, we decided to base our new artwork on the super aggressive fluorescent Pantone color PMS 804. I chose this color because I felt it was the most aggressive and energetic color I could find. It also makes for a very strong contrast to the hard edges of our black logo and vector graphics. All in all I think the mix of our stripped down futuristic graphics and the PMS 804 color gives this release a contemporary vibe that echoes modern design and fashion.

Since computer screens use light to make colors, the glowing fluorescent color matches well with our orange screen color of choice, #ff7700, and this let us bridge the realm of digital artwork with the world of printed products. Finally we made sure that all press photos had a background of matching color, to give the era of Shining's One One One a new, fresh and cohesive visual look.

I'm really proud of the artwork of One One One, and very happy that we managed to withstand the natural urge to fill it with a bunch of messy small details, and instead keep it clean and powerful. It stands out among other covers, it represents the elegance, strength and uncompromising attitude our music has."

The artwork for the CD was created by Trine + Kim Design Studio.

Commented artwork designers Trine Paulsen and Kim Sølve: "The front cover illustration is an octagram and pretty much everything in the artwork is built solely upon an obsession with the figure 8 and eternity. Live At Roadburn
Here's our brand new artwork for Ulver's upcoming "Live At Roadburn" album. Hand drawing by Trine. 2LP and CD available during Roadburn.

From Roadburn:
"Early pioneers of Norwegian black metal Ulver have continually evolved over the years to become living legends of the dark music genre. By blending rock, electronic, industrial and symphonic traditions along with ambient soundscapes and experimental sounds, the band has created truly groundbreaking material.
Ulver returned with Childhood’s End, a collection of classic psychedelic tracks recorded by the band during various sessions starting in late 2008 and ending in late 2011. “This is the stuff that we sit at home and get stoked about,” Kristoffer Rygg explained in an interview. “I grew up with parents who were still listening to music from the time, so it informed my childhood, but it has became an ever increasing geeky sort of fetish since then.”

This passion for Sixties garage rock and psychedelia and the countless underground gems that remain unknown to many inspired the band to record their own interpretations of some of their favorite songs from the era. “My feeling is that most people’s knowledge sort of limits itself to The Doors,” said Rygg, “The Doors were cool, but there was so much else going on in the underground, records that got lost and didn’t get as much recognition as they deserved in my opinion.”

Ulver performed the tracks from Childhood’s End for the first and only time live at Roadburn 2012. Their “1967” performance, mixed by Kristoffer Rygg and mastered by Jaime Gomez Arellano, will be released on 2LP and CD through Burning World Records and available at this year’s Roadburn Festival."

Vertigo out now
Black Metal band Koldbrann's new opus Vertigo, is released today through Seasons Of Mist.

Album and single artwork, logo, poster and more by us.

"Drammen" streaming here:
http://gunshyassassin.com/exclusive/koldbrann-exclusive-song-stream-drammen/

"KOLDBRANN have been spearheading the Norwegian underground Black Metal scene since their founding in 2001 by vocalist Mannevond. Together with compatriots such as 1349, URGEHAL and others the band from Drammen remained true to the early spirit of this genre. Epithets such as “symphonic” were clearly shunned by KOLDBRANN in favour of a cold and raw sound. A demo “Pre-Prod 2002” and a rehearsal tape “Mislyder Fra Det Nekrotiske Kammer” were released in 2002, before the debut album “Nekrotisk Inkvisition” (2003) catapulted the band into critical acclaim and gained them a dedicated fan-base. By virtue of quality KOLDBRANN were invited by prestigious festivals over the following years and performed thrice at the Inferno Festival, Hole in the Sky, twice at Summer Breeze, Party.San Open Air and plenty others as well as touring Europe with ENDSTILLE, MARDUK, URGEHAL, TAAKE and many more. A second album “Moribund” (2006) harvested even higher review grades and better concert slots for the Norwegians. In their steadily ascending career KOLDBRANN unleashed six EPs and 7" singles with the latest output Totalt Sjelelig Bankerott (2012) heralding their third full-length. “Vertigo” now witnesses Mannevond and his partners in crime drawing deep from their black roots, but at the same time adding an uncanny groove and capturing rocking undertone to their formula. KOLDBRANN present traditional Norwegian Black Metal and at the same time incorporate wider elements that for example WATAIN have also taken from and even vintage synthesizers. This “Vertigo” will leave your head spinning!"

The Art Of Dying
One of our earliest and closest cooperators, ULVER, have today shared a statement that everyone dedicated to music in any way should read. People, in general, are not listening any less to music now than 20 years ago, far from it, but at this point it is close to impossible to make any kind of profit on music releases, not even for artists that are selling decent amounts of albums. ULVER, as always, are evolving, trying to adapt to a landscape that no one knows the shape of.

We presume that you are one of us, a person that spends a lot of your time listening to music. Please read ULVER'S post below, and give a second of your life to think it over.

Thank you.

Underjordisk tusmørke
We are pleased to have done the design on Tusmørkes "Underjordisk tusmørke" album. The subterranean illustrations was done by Camilla Kloster. We have assembled the layout, tidying up the pictures and words, hopefully adding something of value.

Tusmørke delivers a unique brand of norwegian, occult progressive rock. The hallucinating grand children of Black Widow and whatever progrock pioneers of your choice, making music from another time that perhaps never has existed. The album is lovingly produced by multi-talent and wizard Lars F. Frøislie (Three Winters, Wobbler, White Willow, Shining (se)), whom also plays an arsenal of vintage synthesizers on the album. Don't miss out on this stellar album of northern mysticism. Tusmørke might have one of the best norwegian singles for years in the occult, witchy folk-rock pop of "Salomonsens Hage".

For your pleasure. Out on Termo now.

Congratulations to Termo and Tusmørke for making a difference.

Give Tusmørke a listen here
